Where do we start?

It’s important to be active on social media, but not without rhyme or reason. While RMHC was active on Facebook and Twitter, they were overwhelmed because they didn’t have a plan or a direction to go for posting quality content. They also wanted to connect with their volunteers and supporters – all while engaging in meaningful conversations about their cause.

Development Director Erica Johnsrud expressed her initial desire for social engagement, saying that, “We wanted to be recognized by being a house that’s effective on social media, but we also wanted to bring more awareness to ourselves locally.”

 

Developing a plan

After meeting with RMHC to gain insight into their goals and resources, the Onsharp team went through in-depth research from a national and local level to find meaningful messaging opportunities related to the organization and their cause. The team used these opportunities to develop an annual content calendar and hashtag strategy that would give RMHC the ability to have a plan in place to reach their target audience in the most efficient and effective way.

In addition to the annual content calendar and hashtag strategy, the Onsharp team shared tools and tips for RMHC to track and measure the reach of their social media efforts. RMHC was excited to learn about tools they hadn’t heard of before or that they thought were too difficult to use in the past, and they quickly picked up on how to use them to effectively measure social media success.

 

Increasing engagement

By creating a strategic plan to actively connect with their audiences on a global and local level, RMHC has seen an increase in engagement on their social channels. Using the hashtag strategy and annual content calendar jointly, it’s now easier for them to create original content and keep it fluid and connected across each of their social media platforms. With a recommendation from Onsharp, they also added an Instagram account which has helped them to share visual content and has provided a new platform for leveraging hashtags.

Executive Director Jill Christopher shared her excitement for the results they’ve seen, saying that, “It was a quick, painless process on our end, and it seemed like a quick process to get from nothing to a huge deliverable. As I talk to other non-profits, we no longer have to talk about ‘the social media problem’ again. We now have a system in place. It’s a time saver, and it’s nice to sit down and be able to have a plan.”
