Seeing the potential

As an organization representing over 94,000 individuals, the FMWF Chamber knows the importance of networking. They see it as a valuable way to enhance opportunities and provide support for their members. But even though the Chamber is already doing a great job at creating relationships, they‘ve struggled to connect with members through social media. They realized that part of the challenge was that they’ve been trying to reach so many unique audiences through one central Twitter account.

Tracy Powell, Director of Events and Programs for the Chamber, shared her thoughts about their team’s initial Twitter presence, saying, “Because we represent such a wide variety of audiences, we needed a way to reach each of them on Twitter. With only one Twitter account and one person managing that account, it was very difficult for us to respond to everyone in a valuable and timely fashion.”

Taking offline efforts online

To figure out where to begin, #TeamOnsharp met with the Chamber to talk more in-depth about their main social media challenges and goals. Onsharp recommended a Twitter Team Training program. The program is designed to provide hands-on experience that helps a team extend their relationships and networking online.

The program kicked off with an advisory group that created code of conduct guidelines, established branding, and planned the details for the training.  The first session with the whole team focused on the basics of Twitter to ensure everyone on the team had the same basic understanding.  A series of email challenges kept everyone engaged between sessions.  And a final session focused on more advanced Twitter capabilities and questions the team had after using Twitter for awhile.

Tracy shared her enthusiasm for the first training session, saying, “I have to confess that I am so hooked on Twitter. After the first training session I spent all weekend reading tweets and getting used to the lingo. The staff and I are so excited about the potential this training has for our team and its members!”

Tweeting up a storm

The training and guidelines were just what the Chamber needed. By creating separate Twitter accounts for each employee, the Chamber has taken their Twitter presence to the next level. They’re now equipped to connect with the specific needs and desires of their unique audiences, and empowered to more effectively reach and respond to those audiences.

Tracy expressed her excitement for the entire experience, saying, “We want to give a big thank you to Team Onsharp for the fantastic Twitter training. With the essential tips and tools learned from the two sessions, we are all very excited to have our individual accounts up and running. The Twitter training has helped us reach our audiences in a way that allows us to add more value to them on social media, which is extremely important these days.”
