A Goal for Engagement

The Fargo Moorhead West Fargo Chamber was ready to ramp up their social media efforts and take engagement to the next level. As host for State of Technology, an event highlighting technology trends in North Dakota, they knew the importance of creating social buzz before, during, and after an event. They wanted their social media communities to be engaged in related conversation, and wanted to build excitement for the event on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram. With Onsharp as their Social Media Sponsor and partner for the event, they set out to increase engagement for the State of Technology event.

VP of Finance and Operations for the FMWF Chamber, Jim Parsons, expressed his initial desire to increase community engagement for the event, saying, “We really wanted to take our social media engagement to the next level for the State of Tech event. Because we never really had a detailed plan in regard to social media, we were determined to connect with the community and spark conversation this time around.”

 

Let’s Give Them Something to Tweet About

Diving in, Onsharp and the Chamber met to talk more in-depth about the specific goals and objectives for the event. After the meeting, Onsharp got started on creating the event strategy. The strategy consisted of identifying the most effective social media channels to be used for promotion, creating promotional content, and researching and developing an event-specific hashtag strategy, including the event hashtag. The hashtag was created to connect messages specific to conversation about the event itself, and was promoted across channels to encourage social media activity before and during the event. Onsharp also managed the Chamber’s Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram channels live at the event, responding to and interacting with the audience in real-time.

 

Interactive Results for the Win

The event social media strategy exceeded the FMWF Chamber’s goals. They saw outstanding results in audience interaction before, during, and after the event. Excitingly, the event pulled in 696 mentions of the custom hashtag. The hashtag tied together valuable feedback, opinions, and conversations shared between audience members, speakers, and the Chamber.

Jim shared his enthusiasm for the results, sharing, “Following all of the social media engagement experienced during the event, we are excited our community is now more aware of our active presence on social media. From here on, we will continue connecting with the community and promoting conversation so that the Chamber can continue to add value to the lives of the people who live and work here.”
