The Importance of the Consumer Voice in Making Changes

Wednesday, 12 May 2010 10:06 by onsharp

This past weekend, individuals from across the Red River Valley came together to show, share, and spread the word about ways to go green in your daily routine at Valley Green Expo 2010. The expo was made up of an array of non-profit organizations, governmental agencies, businesses, and more.

Aside from an abundance of giveaways, natural and organic food samples (including unique pickled vegetables courtesy of Red River Goose Gardens), there were also numerous performers and speakers. Ranging from local family band, Fiddlin’ Friendzy to local meteorologist, John Wheeler, sharing some of his original poetry, variety was of no shortage at this year’s expo. Most importantly there was a shared passion for helping the environment.

Our own Tami Dowers even gave a presentation entitled “Saving the Environment with SmartPay.” In this presentation, Tami talked about the benefits of going paperless with SmartPay: saving time, money, and the environment to name a few. Perhaps one of the most startling stats from the presentation?

"Each year Americans throw away enough office paper alone to build a 12-foot wall from Los Angeles to New York City". Source

Just imagine that. A 12-foot wall from one coast to another. That’s a lot of paper; especially considering this stat accounts for office paper alone. Think of how much money and how many resources could be saved and conserved by switching to paperless billing at your business.

Now you may be thinking “But I’m not a business owner so the choice isn’t mine.” On the contrary, your voice and opinion matter. At our booth during the expo, we encouraged consumers to fill out suggestion cards of businesses or companies they would like to see switch to a paperless billing and payment system like SmartPay.

Put simply, the consumer voice matters to businesses. If these businesses and companies are aware that people like you actually want a service like SmartPay, your voice could help shift them in a new direction for billing and payment. Even if you weren’t at the expo to fill out a suggestion card, we are always taking suggestions. Let us know what business or company you would like to see using SmartPay. Make your suggestion here.

And although we can’t thank you with a helping of pickled beans or a performance of blue grass music, we thank you for your suggestions with sincere appreciation.

Come to think of it… maybe we could round up the web developers and see just how mean their pickling and music skills are?  We hear our Project Manager, Melanie might have some tips and hints about pickling!

Onsharp's SmartPay Electronic Invoicing System Featured at the ETA Expo

SmartPay will be attending the Electronic Transactions Association Annual Meeting and Expo on April 22 and 23, at the Mandelay Bay Resort in Las Vegas.

We'll be there with our partner InterceptEFT for this year's big networking and training sessions. The Electronic Transactions Association is the professional network of the electronic billing industry. This year, educational sessions will cover issues like the future of checks, the implications of the current economic crisis, and the challenges of international payments.

It's an exciting time to be in this industry. Consumers are less likely to use cash (41% of American shoppers report this) and more comfortable with electronic transactions. This means that many businesses are having to go to electronic billing whether they feel ready or not. Some business owners are intimidated by the technology or concerned about the cost of installing software and training staff to use new programs.

At the same time, extensions of HIPAA regulations make security a bigger issue than ever. Any computer which stores sensitive information may have to be locked and require special security measures that can be time-consuming and costly to enforce. Ironically, while there are still some who worry about the security of online transactions, using secure online invoicing like SmartPay is the easiest and least expensive way to achieve HIPAA compliance. With SmartPay, all consumer payments take place online, at a secure portal, and no sensitive data resides in your office computers. Onsharp's SmartPay offers businesses of all sizes a secure, cost-effective way to initiate electronic transactions without an investment in software, new security measures, or specialized technical skills. ETA's commitment to consumer and business education makes them a great fit for us.

We look forward to seeing and being seen at the ETA Expo.
