Why traditional marketing is not dead (or dying)

We write things

I'm sure with each written communication innovation (typewriters, computers, texting, etc.) we thought that was the end of handwriting. Wrong. There will be situations which require we use a pen, pencil, stick, or finger to scribble a message-- Even if it is just "Eat at Joe's".

We drive our cars

And if you take Oprah's No Phone Zone Pledge that definitely includes web browsing. Therefore, billboards will still have relevancy to reach your audience when your web efforts cannot.

We don't always have our smartphones

The infamous "I-forgot-my-cell-phone" panic is known to all. So what will you do when you want to have someone call you or look at your website and there's no phone? You can give him/her a business card with all of that information. If you don't have a card, then write it down (See, we write things).

We don't always visit your website because of online marketing

Do websites receive more visits from organic search results or paid-for results (Search Engine Marketing)? The paid-for results can increase your traffic and produce more sales. Compare the proportion though; more visitors typically click on the organic results. Similarly, social media can drive more and more visitors to your site, but are they the majority of visitors? Do you have unique visitors that searched for your company name or employee names? They probably know of your business for a reason other than your online marketing, like a radio commercial or postcard (which you can easily track in analytics).

The main point is, without traditional marketing, online marketing would not be nearly as successful as it is and vice-versa. Corey Perlman has a great supporting article about how to increase your website traffic using traditional media.
